Alternative Splicing

Alternative splicing is a fundamental, evolutionarily conserved process that vastly expands
the coding power of genomes. Alternative splicing regulation is a key step in gene regulation.
Maybe best recognized as the major source of proteome diversification, alternative
splicing also controls transcript dynamics including their localization, stability, and translation.
Consequently, alternative splicing underlies fundamental cellular processes including
cell growth, differentiation, and death, and its misregulation is associated with severe
pathologies.
